I'm a big fan of Doug Tennapel, who is the creator of the Earthworm Jim video game and cartoon as well as the Catscratch cartoon series based on his comic "Gear."

Those that have been coming to this site for some time may recall my linking to stories about possible movie properties based on his work (such as Creaturetech which still has not materialized).

Unfortunately, what I planned on linking you to today was a lecture that he gave at some art institute about the nature of creativity, but just as I went to "Cartoon Brew" to get the hyperlink, they decided to do some work on their website and their main page doesn't have the correct archival links.

Doug is an artist that uses broad brush strokes to create his artwork that's primarily black and white in nature and typically cartoony.

Checking YouTube, I've found several videos featuring Doug discussing his process and showing you how he inks.

Interestingly, he's apparently started working with Manga Studio EX and begun inking directly on computer.

What's funny about his current inking style is that he's chosen a computer "brush" that's just as fat and bold as the actual brush he used to wield.
